Port Blair, May 30: All the Ration Card holders who are eligible for subsidised food grains through Public Distribution System (PDS) under National Food Security Act (NFSA) can now collect 12 kg of Sugar from the nearest PDS Shop using their Ration card. This is the quota allocated to each individual during the last one year but was not disbursed.
This was disclosed by Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs during a live phone in programme through All India Radio. He further reiterated that the quota of Sugar has been disbursed to PDS Shop’s in South Andaman and Nicobar District, and soon the quota for North and Middle Andaman will be dispatched.
This is a welcome step by the administration during the pandemic period when daily bread earners are struggling to cope up with the situation. Administration had already disbursed two months ration in advance to the card holders. During the interactive programme, Director of CS and CA Mr. Deepak Pundir had assured that there is no shortage of essential items, and buffer stock of three months is already available with the Administration. They are also in touch with other State governments to ensure that supply chain is not interrupted in any manner. This is a refreshing news to those who are roaming around the market place daily collecting essential items without following Covid appropriate behaviour.
