Port Blair, Apr 26: Considering the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Andaman Nicobar Islands, all government employees of Andaman and Nicobar Administration have been exempted from using Biometric attendance. The idea behind this move is to stop spread of Corona Virus from Biometric attendance devices.
But surprisingly the fingerprint biometric transactions of PDS materials are continuing in many areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands even today.
Considering the threat of COVID-19 virus spread, this is surprising to see that all customers of PDS shops are being urged to use the same PDS finger print machine , which is not only dangerous for public but also for the PDS shop owner.
Prominent citizens of Port Blair city are now demanding to stop the fingerprint biometric transaction of PDS materials and allow some alternative means so that the spread of virus could be minimized, through the PDS stores.
When pointed out by Andaman Sheekha English Daily, a senior officer of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs assured to review the issue and look into the matter tomorrow on priority.
