Port Blair, Apr 26: Growing number of COVID-19 cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has become a cause of grave concern for everyone.
Talking to media persons today at IP&T Conference Hall, the Secretary of IP&T Mr. S K Singh today pointed out that today altogether five flights landed at Veer Savarkar International Airport, in which 331 passengers have arrived. Out of these passengers, total 9 passengers (6 locals and 3 defense personnel) have been tested COVID-19 positive in Rapid Antigen Test.
Since the second wave of COVID-19 started, the Administration is very alert and taking all the necessary steps to bring the situation under control.
He added that it has been observed by surveillance teams that people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are still not following COVID-19 guidelines.
“Prevention is the only solution for COVID-19. This is a sincere warning for the public to remain indoors as much as possible. If the situation does not improve, the Administration will have to take stringent measures,” the Secretary added.
Meanwhile the IP&T Secretary added that today 1322 people were vaccinated in Andaman and Nicobar Islands till afternoon.
