Port Blair, Mar 24: Residents of Makachua village of Little Nicobar Island are reportedly facing huge crises of drinking water due to which recently a SOS signal was sent by first captain of Makachua village to the Assistant Commissioner of Great Nicobar through Police Radio Message.
Although the matter of relief is that the District Administration of Nicobar District is aware of the situation and has already taken some preventive steps.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Mr. Kishore Kshirsagar Lakshman, IAS Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, he mentioned that when last time the officials visited the village, they had found that the level of water is low.
Following this, the District Administration had asked the staff of NAREGA to make some ponds in the Island to catch the rain. He also mentioned that the work has already started in the Island.
“Apart from that APWD has also be instructed that there should be no shortage of water,” the DC said.
The Deputy Commissioner pointed out that this time the problem would not be as bad as it was earlier and the District Administration will dig up more ponds if required.
