Port Blair, Feb 24: The duration of Gram Panchayats, Zilla Parishads and Port Blair Municipal Council in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has already expired during last year. Due to spread of pandemic of COVID-19 general elections to these PRI Institutions and Urban Local Body could not be held on time. Now, the situation of COVID-19 has substantially improved in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Therefore, the Election Commission for the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands intends to conduct general elections to these bodies at an early date.
Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by rule 7 (1) (c) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Panchayats) (Preparation of Electoral Rolls and Conduct of Elections) Rules, 1995 and rule 5 (3) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Municipal) (Preparation of Electoral Rolls and Conduct of Elections) Rules, 1995 the Election Commission shall hold a public draw of lots on 04.03.2021 at 10.00 a.m. in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium, Port Blair, to allocate the seats reserved for women in Gram Panchayats in South Andaman District (including Campbell Bay). Zilla Parishad, South Andaman and PBMC for the forthcoming General Elections to these local bodies.
Further, the Election Commission shall also hold a public draw of lots on 05.03.2021 at 11.30 am in Community Hall, Zilla Parishad, Mayabunder to allocate the seats reserved for women in Gram Panchayats in North & Middle Andaman and Zilla Parishad, North & Middle Andaman. Any person or political party desirous to attend is welcome.
