Sri Vijaya Puram, October 29: Mr. G. Bhasker, Chairman, Campaign Committee, Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has written to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Department of Environment & Forests, A & N Administration, requesting the removal of dangerous trees along the convoy route from Jirkatang Check Post to Middle Strait Jetty.
In his letter dated 27th October, 2026, Mr. Bhasker drew attention to the serious safety concerns arising from dangerous trees along the convoy route. He said that during the rainy season, trees frequently fall on the road, obstructing vehicular movement and causing considerable inconvenience to passengers and tourists. Clearing such fallen trees often takes several hours, resulting in prolonged delays and leaving passengers stranded inside the dense forest without mobile network.
He stated that there have also been instances of trees falling directly onto vehicles, causing damage and posing a serious threat to the lives and safety of drivers and passengers, and that such incidents require urgent preventive measures rather than merely clearing fallen trees after an incident occurs.
Mr. Bhasker requested the department to conduct an immediate inspection of the entire stretch from Jirkatang to Middle Strait, identify trees that are dead, decaying, structurally weak or otherwise likely to fall, and take necessary action for their removal. To avoid disruption to convoy operations and inconvenience to the public, he suggested that the work be undertaken during the scheduled hours when the convoy is not operating, in coordination with the Police Department.
He requested the department to treat the matter as most important and initiate necessary preventive measures at the earliest to avert any untoward incident.
