
Port Blair, Jan 17: On the second day of the A&N Police Raising Week, seeking to promote the concept of ‘Fit India’ a ‘Run for Nation’ was organized by A&N Police. Flagged off by the DGP, Sh. Satyendra Garg, IPS, the run, began at 0630 a.m. from Dharamshala Jn. near Marina Park and took the scenic coastal route to Carbyn’s Cove. The run was organized in two categories, 5km for men, and 2km for women, and the total participation was over 160 runners. To encourage the runners, senior police officers including the DGP Sh. Garg and ADGP (Law & Order), Sh. Madhup Tewari, IPS, participated in the event along with rank and file.
A motorcycle rally was also organized on Sunday to spread awareness about COVID-19 and to honour Corona Warriors of the Islands. The rally started and culminated at the iconic Cellular Jail, and covered the entire city including Flag Point, Clock Tower and Marina Park. A felicitation program followed the rally where PBMC workers, doctors, medical staff and social workers were honored for their role and contribution in containing the COVID-19 pandemic in the Islands.
The N&M Andaman district celebrated the day with awareness programs on cyber-crime, crime against women, discussions on social issues, along with special cleanliness drives on beaches and other places of tourist importance. The Nicobar district Police conducted plantation drive across the Nicobar group and also organized a painting competition as part of the Police Week.
The A&N Police Raising Week is celebrated every year from 16th to 22nd January to mark the hard work and dedication of the Police staff around the year in various duties. Tomorrow, A&N Police will organize a blood donation camp, panel discussion on women’s safety, cleanliness drive and a tug of war as part of the celebration. The general public is invited to take part in the activities and make the Police Week celebrations a grand success.
