Port Blair, Dec 23:One day Training-cum-awareness on Cultivation of pulses in rice fallow lands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands was organised at KVK, Sippighat on 23rd December, 2020 and high yielding CIARI pulse varieties (green gram and black gram) distributed under Cluster Frontline Demonstration (CFLD) program of KVK, Port Blair. Dr. B A Jerard, The Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair was the Chief Guest of the programme distributed the green gram and black gram seeds along with Rhizobium bio-fertilizer which helps by fixing nitrogen in soil and also highlighted the role of pulses in crop rotation and soil health improvement. A total of 18 farmers (4 Male and 14 Female) were participated and benefited in the program. In the occasion, Dr. V. K. Pandey, SMS welcomed the Chief Guest and the farmers. Dr. L. B. Singh, Head I/c, KVK appraised about CFLD program launched by GoI for enhancing pulse production in India. The importance of pulse cultivation in Islands was emphasised by Dr. P. K. Singh, PS and Head (I/c), Division of FCIP. While Dr. K Venkatesan, Scientist briefed about package of practices and HYVs developed by CIARI on green gram and black gram. Dr. N.Bommayasamy, SMS briefed on role of critical inputs like seeds of pulses and Rhizobium in pulse cultivation and arranged these inputs under CFLD program for distribution. This program was ended with vote of thanks by Shri Shyam Sundar Rao, Farm Manager, Bloomsdale Farm. These programmes were conducted under over all leadership of The Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair under ICAR-Seed project and CFLD program of KVK, Sippighat, Port Blair.
