Port Blair, Sept 14: Considering the heavy rush in all the ANIIDCO Wine shops in Port Blair city, the decision of South Andaman District Administration to extend the timings for further three hours upto 5 PM is a welcome step.
However, many believe that this is not going to reduce the threat of possible spread of Corona Virus among those standing in long queues for hours together under the scorching sun or incessant rain.
“The increase in timing will result in increase in number of people in the queue. Some will come multiple times on the same day. The only solution will be to develop an app in the same line as that of Kerala State. To maintain social distancing around the shop, the state government has launched the Kerala BevQ mobile app through which people will get the virtual token to avoid the crowd,” said a resident of Port Blair.
Such app can easily be developed by IT wing of AN Administration and registered with Play Stores within no time. The other option would be to sell liquor online with provision for home delivery, using social media app like WhatsApp.
If social distancing norm is to be followed correctly, the administration will have to think for some out of the box solutions, to ensure liquor sale does not result is spread of COVID19.
