Port Blair, July 13: In yet another incident of Elephant attack, a regular Mazdoor of Forest Department, Mr. Niranjan Jaidar S/o Bian jaider R/o Harpattabad working as Mahout was crushed to death by the Elephant, he was assigned with.
According to reports the incident took place at around 2.00 PM today. The elephant, originally attached to Garacharma Range, was involved in log shifting works since last 4-5 days. Source said the Elephant is in Musth but officially it has not been confirmed yet.
As per sources the Elephant stood with the body for a long time and did not allow anyone to come close, later the body was pushed into a nearby nallah by the Elephant, it is learnt.
On reports large number of armed police jawans and Forest staffs were sent to the area but the Elephant went inside the Jungle.
For precaution large number of families living in huts in Shoal Bay number 8 and nearby areas have been shifted to Aganwadi, Community Hall and relatives’ house. Forest Department has also brought some crackers to keep the Elephant away from the public, it is learnt. More details are awaited.
