Baratang, July 09: The residents of rural areas of Baratang, who are dependent solely on Doordarshan to stay updated with the latest updates of the world, are crying foul because they are not receiving the Doordarshan channel for more than a month. The problem in the VLPT of Doordarshan Relay Center of the region is said to be the reason behind the issue.
According to the Ex-Zilla Parishad member of the area Mr. G. Kurma Rao, cable services are available only from Nilambur Jetty to entire Krishnanagar and South Creek areas. Some people those live in deep pockets have now installed TATA sky services but many people who are residing 08 kilometers away from the Police Station like Jarawa Creek, Rajatgadh, Baludera, Rugla Chang, Abhaygadh, Kanhangadg etc where cable services are not available they completely depend on Doordarshan.
“Of course, some people in these areas too have TATA sky but the poor people who do not have money to afford the services of TATA sky are the sufferers,” said Mr. Rao.
According to Mr. G. Kurma Rao, the matter has been intimated to the Doordarshan Kendra, Port Blair for immediate repair long ago but till date no action has been taken by the authorities to repair the same.
As per Mr. Rao the problem developed after the local caretaker of Doordarshan Kendra was not paid for months and he left his job.
“I have spoken to the Director Doordarshan recently and he has promised that by tomorrow or day after tomorrow the problem will be solved,” Mr. Rao added.
Hope, the Doordarshan won’t delay anymore to rectify the fault and extend their services in the rural areas, so that, the residents receive the basic facility.
Meanwhile, when the matter was intimated to the new Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, she assured Andaman Sheekha correspondent that this matter will be taken up by her and it will be resolved soon.
