Port Blair, May 24: The old lady of Andaman, who was tested COVID-19 positive in the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai on 07th May 2020 had earlier complained that she missed her bag containing crucial documents like Islander Card, some Cash and Passport etc. During initial days her family member had told Andaman Sheekha that the old lady was unable to brush her teeth and change dress for several days due to missing bag.
Now it has been informed to Andaman Sheekha that the bag could not be traced yet by hospital authority, which has caused huge anxiety among the suffering lady and her family members.
“All my mother’s identity cards like PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Passport, Islander Card were in that bag. If we don’t get the bag, how will I take my mother back to Andaman?” questioned the daughter of the lady.
As per reports, the daughter of the lady was suffering from Cancer and had come to Chennai on 02nd March 2020 with her mother and husband for treatment.
The daughter’s operation at Adyar Cancer Institute was scheduled on 16th March 2020 but due to the COVID-19 impact during then, the operation and chemotherapy etc were postponed and this resulted in the family staying back in Chennai at a rented house.
Till 15th April 2020, the family was in that rented house and they again visited the Adyar Cancer Institute where the daughter managed to complete her first chemotherapy and was discharged on 20th April 2020.
All the plans ruined when on 02nd May 2020 the daughter went for some checkup in the hospital and was tested COVID-19 positive. She was then admitted to Annadurai Hospital, Chennai.
Later on 07th May 2020, the mother of the daughter was also tested COVID-19 positive and was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai and because she was not well versed with Tamil language, a lot of confusion took place and the aged lady lost her bag.
It is learnt that under direction of Chief Secretary of A & N Administration, local officers remained in constant touch with the family. “We have got calls from the staff from District Commissioner Office, South Andaman, the DRC Chennai called and told us that she is talking to the hospital authorities for my mother’s bag and I got a call from the AC Office Rangat as well,” said the daughter.
The daughter also thanked Mr. MT Mustafa, President, Island Protection Forum because of whose help she received ration articles twice in their rented home, where we are in-home quarantine since 16th May 2020.
The daughter is now requesting the Andaman administration to support them in getting back the lost bag of her mother as it contains all crucial documents and without which she won’t be able to bring her mother back to Andaman.
However, the daughter with the help of some NGO in Chennai and Mr. MT Mustafa, President, IPF is going to register an FIR tomorrow in this regard.
Andaman Sheekha would also like to highlight that the purpose of visiting the family to Chennai is not completed yet and it has also cost the family a fortune.
The daughter who is said to be in the third stage of cancer still has to complete her 07 pending chemotherapies but because she has exhausted all the money, she will return back to Andaman, once the home quarantine is over for her on 30th May 2020.
When Andaman Sheekha asked the daughter about how will she complete her treatment now, she said that once she is back to Andaman she will try for some loans and ask her well-wishers for some money and go for the left out treatment in Kolkata and not in Chennai because of the language issues.
“If at all I am fit for some medical schemes, I request the Andaman Administration to get my treatment done in the said scheme,” said the daughter.
