Port Blair, May 15: It came as a big relief for the people of other Island, stranded at Port Blair when the movement between the Islands started, however, the mandatory medical screening before the movement has now added to the woes of the stranded inter-islanders.
Non- availability of public transports to reach Jawaharlal Nehru College and Netaji Stadium for medical screening has become a major source of discomfort for these stranded people, who are already having a terrible time in Port Blair.
“The Buses of State Transport Service currently in service on roads are only providing their facilities to the government staffs those are having a pass and these stranded people are not entertained who are staying in various places of South Andaman region. Without an arrangement of any public transport, how would they reach for medical screening?” Questioned Mr. Sanjay Meshack, PBMC Councilor, Ward Number 23.
Mr. Meshack said that the people who have anyhow managed to do their medical screening are directed by the DC office to reach the Bus Stand at 05:00 or 06:00 am, and when the people cross-questioned them that how would they reach without the facility of any public transport, they are said to make arrangements of their own.
“Tomorrow I am going to drop 06 people to Bus Stand at 05:00 am as the bus to Diglipur is at 06:00 am, they would have been forced to walk for 7-8 kilometers if nobody would helps them in this situation,” Mr. Meshack added.
Mr. Meshack has requested the administration that before issuing instructions they must plan things meticulously well so that people can reap the benefits of such government measures.
