Port Blair, Apr 30: A Birthday Party organized during lockdown at Bambooflat area by a family became talk of town when nearly 22 people were tested COVID19 positive one by one since April 17,2020. Most importantly many who attended the party and also those who are close to the said family were later tested COVID19 positive.
Sadly the party organised by the family caused hardship to thousands of people of Bambooflat, Shorepoint, Hopetown, Stewartgunj, Wimberlygunj, Kanyapuram, Nayapuram, Mannarghat, Teylerabad and Calicut areas, as these areas were soon declared Red Zone and lockdown was very strictly maintained in these areas. Not only this, hundreds of people connected to the family were taken to Institutional Quarantine because of sudden surge in COVID19 positive cases.
Due to lack of proper information in this regard, several people in social media raised this issue and questioned why no legal action was initiated by police in this regard. Many other questioned why no action was taken against a cop of the family, who allegedly misused his travel pass and visited Calicut area of South Andaman.
Andaman Sheekha today raised these questions with the Director General of Police, A & N Islands, Mr. Dipendra Pathak who later directed concerned police officer to provide necessary details to Andaman Sheekha in this regard.
The Senior Officer told Andaman Sheekha that a case has already been registered in this regard against the family and a few others parents, whose children attended the birthday party. However, the officer said that the Birthday Party was not a big one.
He said that FIR has been registered against nine people in this regard. Later Andaman Sheekha got information from sources that the case were already registered on 23 April 2020, u/s 187/188/269/270/271,34 IPC rws 51b DM act 2005.
Regarding misuse of travel pass, Andaman Sheekha was informed that after thorough investigation it was found that the said cop had visited Calicut area of South Andaman to pickup his wife, who is pregnant by eight months, for a medical checkup, which was already scheduled. Andaman Sheekha was informed that as movement for such medical cases are not considered as misuse of travel pass, no action was taken in this regard.
