Port Blair, Apr 21: Since lockdown only vegetables are being carried by ferry vessels to Port Blair from Neil Island and there is an absolute restriction on movement of any person in the ferry. But to the utter dismay of Islanders of Neil Island on Friday last one staff of Syndicate Bank reached Neil Island by government ferry.
Arrival of an outsider to naturally cutoff Island, during lockdown period and also when COVID19 positive case number 12 was reported from Port Blair, left many in Neil Island upset and scared.
Some senior politicians called up the officers of District Administration and also the Syndicate Bank Port Blair and the politicians were however assured by authorities that the said person was already in quarantine for nearly two weeks and there is no need to worry. Bank management reportedly told them that the staff carried cash for the Neil Island.
Meanwhile it is learnt that SHO PS Shaheed, Inspector Shabana Haneef has also taken prompt action and checked necessary documents from the bank staffs regarding medical fitness and travel permissions, which were in order.
Even thought remote Islanders claim that arrival of outsider during the time of COVID19 pandemic is a threat and this shouldn’t have happened. “If they can send a person only for cash then there are many such other urgent issues. Many students of Shaheed Dweep are stranded at Port Blair and they have completed 28 days in quarantine. Why can’t they be sent to Shaheed Dweep,” an Islander questioned.
