Shaheed Dweep, March 29: Vegetable Farmers of Shaheed Dweep may have to bear tremendous losses if the administration doesn’t take any step to send a cargo vessel immediately for transportation of vegetables from Shaheed Dweep.
As per reports, tonnes of vegetables grown by the farmers are lying as it is with them and due to the lockdown the farmers are unable to send those produce to Port Blair. Meanwhile in Port Blair there is an acute shortage of Vegetables and hence Port Blairians are not getting sufficient vegetables.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mrs. Sampa Banerjee, President, Bhartiya Janta Mahila Morcha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands said that she has received several calls from the farmers of the Shaheed Dweep that their vegetables are going to decay and hence, she has tried to connect with all the officers of civil supplies to help the farmers in Shaheed Dweep for transporting their vegetables.
“I have contacted Assistant Director, Civil Supplies and send an SMS to the Secretary Civil Supplies as well, to take a call in this regard, I am still waiting for their response,” Mrs. Banerjee said.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Pradhan, Shaheed Dweep Gram Panchayat, Mr. Ram Krishna Biswas said that if the vegetables from the Shaheed Dweep Island are transported well in time the people in Port Blair will have the availability of vegetables while the farmers in the Shaheed Sweep also won’t have to bear any losses.
“The administration must send a cargo vessel immediately with essential commodities required in the Shaheeddweep Islands and carry back the vegetable stocks available here” Mr. Ram requested the administration.
