Port Blair, March 29: The President, Island Protection Forum, Mr. MT Mustafa has requested the District Commissioners of all the three districts in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to either release wages to all the beneficiaries under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act or else allow them to purchase the ration articles in credit during this tough situation the globe is through.
In a letter addressed to the District Commissioners of all the three districts in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Mustafa stated that the beneficiaries have not received the MGNREGA wages for the last six months and hence, one or the other step is a must, so that, they can manage to cater the needs of their families.
Besides this, Mr. Mustafa stated that the local fishermen of the Islands are also going through a tough time in managing their daily livelihood following non-functioning of the fishing activities and therefore, he also requested the DCs to facilitate them with ration articles or provide them with some financial assistance.
