Port Blair, Sept 06: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC today met with the Lt Governor and appraised him of the Notification published in The Daily Telegrams on 31.8.2012 for the post of Assistant Professors and pleaded that due to lack of facilities for obtaining P.hd and M. Phil degrees in these Islands, Andaman students have to go to mainland for which they have to bear a huge expenditure.
“After seeing the Notification published on 31st August, 2012, the aspirants having M.Phil/ Ph.d degrees became restless since the Recruitment rules so framed by the A & N Administration are not at par with the RR framed by the UGC and do not allow them to apply for the vacant post of Assistant Professors,” Mr. Sharma said.
He added that these qualified unemployed youths are shocked to see how the AN Administration can form their own rules for recruitment of Assistant Professors, ignoring the norms of the UGC.
“As per the Sl No: 6 of the notification, maximum age limit has been prescribed as 35 years which is not feasible for the higher qualified aspirants ( such as Ph. D holders) as per UGC norms and at Sl 7.Note.1 under the heading “Explanation of Good Academic Record” the line “for that candidate who obtained a recognised degree beyond Master Degree” has not been included as per the explanation of UGC Norms,” he said.
Hence Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested to the Lt Governor to intervene into this matter as this is the question of the future of our unemployed youths. He added that in case a little modification is carried out in the Notification in the columns of age and qualification by adding the recruitment rules of the UGC, many aspirants may try their luck and some of them may get employment.
