Port Blair, Jan 22: The Great Nicobar Island is once again facing severe shortage of petrol due to delay in transportation of fuel from Port Blair.
Since last nearly eight days the Petrol Pump of Campbell Bay has started rationing petrol and one person is given hardly 2 ltrs of petrol at a time. Often long queue could be seen outside the petrol pump.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha correspondent, some residents of Great Nicobar have expressed their disappointment over the working style of ANIIDCO as such delay often causes fuel crisis in Great Nicobar.
“When ANIIDCO knows that fuel has to be sent in remotest corner of Andaman and Nicobar Islands then why fuel in not shipped in advance? Why they wait for the last moment? If fuel does not reach Campbell Bay in next seven or eight days then no vessel will be able to operate here,” said a local resident.
Auto Drivers are worst hit because of the fuel crisis as they are unable to operate and are suffering heavy loss.
Meanwhile, when contacted a senior officer of ANIIDCO, on the condition of anonymity said that yesterday the ANIIDCO managed to send petrol and diesel for Campbell Bay via EHL ship. According to the official unavailability of government vessel for transportation of fuel was the main reason behind such delay but now the fuel consignment has already been sent.
But he added that the ship will reach Campbell Bay only on 25 January 2020, till then public has to manage anyhow.
