Port Blair, Jan 06: The erstwhile Neil Island, presently known as Shaheed Dweep is being projected as a major tourism destination globally but in reality the Islanders of the remote Islands are still waiting for basic infrastructure. While focusing much of tourism development the Administration has perhaps forgotten that the tiny Island neither has proper shed at the cremation ground nor has a mortuary van.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha recently, the Zilla Parishad Member, Shaheed Dweep, Mr DK Verma recently said that often during funeral in rainy days people attending the funeral get completely drenched. There is no way to cover the dead body too, he said.
“A shed at the cremation ground is urgently needed so that people can perform last rites of their loved ones without any problem,” said Mr Verma.
Mr Verma further requested the administration to provide a Mortuary Van to Shaheed Dweep as according to him the Islands has sufficient population to get service of a Mortuary Van.
