Diglipur, Sept 04: A CBI team, consisting of seven officials, today reportedly raided the Sita Nagar Panchayat and arrested one Panchayat Secretary (in-charge) for graft. Though till now CBI has not confirmed the news officially, but eye witnesses in Sita Nagar Panchayat today told Andaman Sheekha that two CBI officials caught hold of the Panchayat Secretary, Mr Anil Kumar Sharma, when he was coming out of his office this evening and then took him inside the Sita Nagar Panchayat Building. Till late evening the CBI team and the Panchayat Secretary were inside.
Unconfirmed report says that the said Panchayat Secretary had demanded approximately Rs.15000/- from Mr. Amit Saha, a contractor for release of his Security deposit of Rs.60,000/- (approx). Later the amount was negotiated to Rs. 10,000 than finally settled at Rs. 5000/-. It was learnt that after interrogation the Panchayat Secretary will be taken to Diglipur Guest House and from there he will be brought to Port Blair tomorrow. More details are awaited.
