Mayabunder, Dec 23: The members of Bhartiya Janta Party, North and Middle Andaman today staged a protest in front of DC Office, Mayabunder and demanded action against the attacker of Pradhan, Pahalgaon Gram Panchayat, Mr Shivananda Bairagi.
The protest was organised under the leadership of Shivananda Bairagi and during the protest, Mr Shivananda also highlighted various problems faced by the people of his region and demanded administration to resolve those issues.
The protest started at 10:00 am in the morning lasted till 11:45 am after the DC, North and Middle Andaman, Mr Awanish Kumar informed the protestors that a team under the leadership of ACF, Mayabunder has been constituted to inquire into the matter of attack on Shivananda Bairagi and assured the protestors that action will be taken against the attacker.
Also, when the DC informed the protestors that the genuine demand will be taken in priority and will be resolved the protest was called off.
However, the Pradhan of Pahalgaon Gram Panchayat, Mr Shivananda Bairagi as now raised serious doubt over the inquiry, which the DC has assured.
“I strongly believe that there is an involvement of AC, North and Middle Andaman in the case of attack against me, during recent Gram Sabha meeting. How a lower ranked officer like ACF can conduct inquiry against a DANICS officer? Inquiry must be conducted by a senior DANICS officer,” said Mr. Bairagi.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha he threatened to organize a ATR block protest in the first week of January 2010 if the assurances given by the DC are fulfilled within ten days.
However, Mr Awanish Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner, refused the demand of Shivananda Bairagi of not evicting encroachments and informed the protestors that illegal encroachment will not be entertained at any cost and all encroachments will be removed according to the schedule.
Earlier, hundreds of people participated in the protest with banners of BJP party and shouted slogans against the Administration.
