Port Blair, Dec 22: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute conducted an awareness programme on National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD) at Mithakhari Village, South Andaman on 21st December, 2019. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. B. A. Jerard, Director, ICAR-CIARI and inaugurated by Mr. Mohammed Safiq, Pradhan, Mithakhari Panchayat as the chief guest. In his address, he appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CIARI and urged the fish farmers to reap maximum benefit from the programme.
Various aspects of aquatic animal disease surveillance and health management, Good Aquaculture Practices (GAP), fish feed and quality indicators of fish were explained to the fish farmers by the experts. Besides, water quality analysis was demonstrated to the farmers. The queries raised by the farmers were addressed by the experts during the interactive session. Further, folders and leaflets on composite fish culture, quality fish seed and health management were distributed for the benefit of stakeholders. The programme was organised under the NSPAAD project by Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, Dr. K. Saravanan, Dr. J. Praveenraj, Dr. Harsha Haridas, Dr. Sreepriya Prakasan and Dr. Deeptiha, R.P. Scientists from ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 26 fish farmers (3 female) from Mithakhari and Ograbraj villages have participated in the programme
