Port Blair, Dec 22: A central secretariat meeting of the Non Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A&N Islands held at Crusade house, Port Blair on 21/12/2019 decides to organize territory-wide agitation in support of National Strike called by the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers and central trade unions on 8th January, 2020. The meeting unanimously decided to organize daylong Dharna, Processions and Public meetings on that day at Port Blair and other outstations jointly with CITU.
The Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers, New Delhi has served the strike notice to the Cabinet Secretary, Govt. of India on 12th December,2019 along with the 10-point charter of demands of Central govt. employees. The demands include scrapping of new contributory pension system and 7th pay commission issues.
Also a resolution adopted in the meeting expressed serious concern at the exorbitant flight fare prevailing in the Island –mainland sector. In an emergency the Islanders are forced to pay out an amount not less than Rs 30000 for a ticket from Port Blair to Chennai or Kolkata. The meeting appealed the administration for reintroduction of chartered flights immediately from Port Blair to Chennai, Kolkata and vizag. Shri P Satyapal, President of the Association and Shri T S Sreekumar, General Secretary addressed the meeting.
