Port Blair, Dec 09: President Ram Nath Kovind presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards to 36 nursing personnel at an awards ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on December 5, 2019. The awards were conferred on the occasion of International Nurses Day.The staff nurse (retired) Smti. K.Annalakshmi from Andaman & Nicobar Islands also honored by President Ram Nath Kovid.
Smti. K.Annalakhmi, has 39 years of experience working as staff nurse and nursing sister. As Matron she has worked for one year at G.B.Pant Hospital, Port Blair. Besides her GNM qualification, she has undergone PG Diploma in Public Health Management. During most of her service, she has served various communities of small islands, where transport and other facilities have been a great challenge. She served the tribal community with dedication and commitment. Her skills of managing critically ill patients in emergencies are commendable. She has escorted many critically ill patient from Island to mainland by air ambulance as stretcher case, many a times from Nicobar Islands, Port Blair. Trained in laparoscopic surgery for three months, she has facilitated laparoscopic family planning activities. Under RCH program, she has handled 10,000 cases.
