Port Blair, Nov. 27: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma Member of Parliament organized a Health camp at Mithakhari village on 24.11.2019, Sunday at 9 am with the help of the Doctors of Medical College and Doctors of Directorate of Health Service. The purpose of the health camp was to provide health checkup at the door step of the villagers. More than 300 villagers including old age, women and children attended the camp.
Super Specialist Doctors from various field such as Obstetrics, Gynecologist, Pediatrician, General Medicine, Community Medicine etc examined the patients. Free medicines were also distributed in the health camp to the patients. Screening and laboratory investigations were done for the needy patients. Screening for life style disorders like hypertension and diabetes were carried out and several new cases were detected in the camp. Necessary advice and treatment were given to them. Patients who were in need of advanced treatment were referred to G P Pant Hospital. The MP thanked the Administration for helping to conduct such kind of health camp. But the MP has also shown lot of concern about the prevailing health infrastructure facilities in the islands. He said in last 70 years after independence much have been done. But still a lot more to be done. He said inspite of the effort of the Andaman and Nicobar administration we are unable to get the specialist doctors to our islands. Lots of specialties posts are lying vacant since decades. Major issues like Heart, Brain , Neuro system etc are not treated in the Islands. Even we don’t have a Trauma Centre. Patients of any major dieses and accidents is referred to Mainland which costs heavely on the government as well the patients apart from other difficulties. MP also said that in case of any emergency after 3 pm the patient have to wait till the next morning for his shifting to mainland for further treatment because we don’t have any flight after 3 pm. MP said these are the major health related challenges which are to be tackled by the administration in the coming future.
While speaking in the occasion Dr. Omkar Singh, Director of Health Service said that people should be health conscious. Rather he will be very happy if less amount of patients come to the hospitals. Dr. A. K. Mondal, Director of Medical college lauded the effort of the MP for conducting such type of health camp at the rural villages. Mr. Shafiq Pradhan Mithakhari gave the welcome speech and Mr. Sanjiv Mondal Zilla Parishad member proposed vote of thanks and the villagers appreciated the effort of MP for conducting such type of health camp.
