Port Blair, Nov 18: The burden of standing in the long queues to pay the electricity bills, once in every month, seems to end soon for the residents of South Andaman region, as the Electricity Department is working ‘in full flow’ to start the online Bill payment facilities for the South Andaman residents.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Superintendent Engineer, Electricity Department, Mr Ajit Bernard said that the department is already under process to launch the facility and all the technical works are almost completed. “In the first phase the facility will be launched only for the residents of South Andaman region,” Mr Bernard added. However he clarified that the service will be launched after the undersea optical fiber cable laying works are completed.
Earlier talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Surajit Chowdary, Assistant Engineer, IT Section, Electricity Department said that after the start of computerized billing process since 2011-12, they connected all their site offices with the help of SOVTECH and the lease line to connect all the site offices was provided by BSNL.
He further said that because the lease line provided by the BSNL suffers frequent breakdowns and remains unattended for a long time, the customers face a lot of problems to pay their bills. However, no specific date has given by the department to start the online Bill Payment facility.
