Port Blair, Nov 07: Non- disbursal of various pensions like Widow Pension, destitute pension, Old age pension and disability pension to the pensioners, by the Social Welfare Department had left many pensioners blank.
Addressing the issue with the Secretary Social Welfare in a letter, the Zilla Parishad Member, Wimberlygunj area, Ms Mariyam Bibi stated that since the month of February the above mentioned social security schemes for pensioners has been stopped.
“Being the only source of income for pensioners, the pensioners are facing a lot of hardship due to non- disbursal of their pensions,” Ms Mariyam stated.
Further in her letter Ms Mariyam stated that on enquiry it was learnt that due to some audit objections the pensions had been deferred.
Ms Mariyam lastly requested the Secretary Social Welfare to immediately resolve this issue and release the pension of the pensioners whose documents are clear and also requested to pay the arrears to the pensioners that can bring them out of trouble.
