Port Blair, Oct 30: The Students of second Year (MBBS) of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) were sensitized on Disaster Management & Preparedness today at the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration. The Safety Officer (DM), Shri Deen Mohammed interacted with the students and briefed about the various types of disasters. During the presentation, he elaborated the vulnerability profile of A & N Islands, which are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities. Although we cannot prevent these natural phenomenon, but with a holistic and a meticulous approach and plan, we can mitigate the impact.
The Safety Officer also explained about preparedness mechanism and functions of Disaster Management and State Emergency Operation Centre and about the Emergency Communication System of this UT and practically demonstrated the communication equipments and its functions in State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
