Port Blair, Oct 23: Taking cognizance of the incident that occurred yesterday at Swaraj Dweep, where a mazdoor, Mr. T Rama Rao, died on the spot after falling from a power pole, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has asked the Electricity Department to send a report on the lapses from the side of the department, if any.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a senior most officer of the electricity department, on the condition of anonymity said that an instruction has already come from the administration for a report regarding the lapses.
The senior most officer, also said that just 02 hours after the incident, the Assistant Engineer as well as Executive Engineer reached Swaraj Dweep.
“Both have been asked for the report and once I receive a report from them I will conduct a personal enquiry on this matter and if required the site engineers will be also asked for an explanation and I will also send a report to the administration after a thorough enquiry,” the officer added.
However, the senior most officer, said that according to the initial reports, the mazdoor was not alone on the pole, being a deadline it is mandatory that the lineman must be with him, and hence, when the mazdoor was assisting the lineman, the mazdoor complained about uneasiness following which he fell down. “The lineman tried to hold him for a certain time but he could not hold for long,” said the senior most officer.
