Port Blair, Oct 18: In a highly professional and well planned raid conducted today by the CID unit of Andaman and Nicobar Police, the CID unit was able to seize nearly 2.5KG of Ganja from two passengers of MV Swaraj Dweep vessel, which reached Mayabunder today from Kolkata at around 8.00AM.
According to reports, a team of CID had reached Mayabunder nearly two days back to conduct a thorough search of MV Swaraj Dweep along with IRBn Jawans. Nearly 75 police jawans from nearby Police Stations of North Andaman were also brought to Mayabunder for this raid. The Dog Squad was also taken to Mayabunder for this purpose.
Finally when the vessel MV Swaraj Dweep reached Mayabunder this morning from Kolkata the joint police team conducted a thorough search and seized 2.5 KG of Ganja from two passengers of MV Swaraj Dweep.
While one accused is said to be from Port Blair the other accused is from Mayabunder, the names of the accused is yet not known.
The CID team had reportedly tracked the consignment since last several weeks and finally when it was confirmed that the consignment is reaching Mayabunder the team arranged this special raid.
The raid was so crucial that the SP CID Mr. Ravi Kumar Singh, was also present at Mayabunder during the raid and the SP District of North and Middle had also provided all necessary helps.
It is learnt that the vessel MV Swaraj Dweep was escorted by three vessels from high sea upto the port so that the accused can throw the consignment into sea.
