Port Blair, Oct 16: It seems like now it is the turn of Chouldary area to bear the brunt of Power cuts. Since last one week the residents of the area are witnessing frequent tripping of power supply from the Electricity department. Residents of Chouldary area allege that they are forced to bear the brunt of load shedding 05-06 times a day.
“Several complaints to the Electricity site office of the area has borne no fruit instead we were left with a reply that the power cut happened either from Sippighat site office or from Garacharma Power House,” said a shop owner and resident of the area.
Residents also alleged that there was no prior intimation of the power cuts by the Electricity Department, “if they do so, we may atleast do all our work when the power supply is on,” said Mrs Jhunjhuni, a resident of the Chouldary area.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Pradhan, Chouldary Gram Panchayat, Mr Mohan Halder said that the issue is because there is no substation in Tushnabad, Dhannikhari, Sippighat, Ograbraj area for which the demand is kept since decades but no steps have been taken by the Electricity department yet to do so.
“There is only a series line (Tiger Line) from Garacharma to Tirur and therefore, if any damage or any rectification has to be done between these areas the entire villages from Garacharma to Tirur had to suffer, if there will be substations in the above mentioned areas the tripping will be then limited to villages,” said Mr Mohan.
Further Mr Mohan said that the matter of frequent power outage in his constituency was highlighted by him to the Superintendent Engineer, Electricity Department, Ajit Bernard yesterday but Mr Mohan said that even today the area is witnessing power cuts for long hours.
