Port Blair, Sept 27: In a drive against malnutrition and as a part of nationwide observance of September month as ‘Rashtriya Poshan Mah 2019’, Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy), Port Blair under Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India conducted a ‘Poshan Awareness Rally’ today. The Rally was organized to create awareness among the general public with the theme – Importance of Nutrition during antenatal care, postnatal care & lactating phase. All officials and staff members of CRU(H), Port Blair and approx 50 students of GDMS school, Middle school along with their teachers enthusiastically participated in the rally.
Posters and slogans on the importance of healthy nutritious foods, importance of balanced diet, nutritional deficiencies were displayed and and message to combat malnutrition was delivered to the needy population through the awareness drive . The rally was flagged off from CRU (H), Middle point and proceeded towards Bengali club thereafter covering Goal Ghar area junction and culminated at the same venue.
Deputy Education Officer, A & N Adminstration, Mr. Shashi Kumar was the guest of the occasion and he addressed the students regarding the importance of healthy food and nutrition through his enlightening words before flagging off the rally. Dr Uttam Singh, Officer Incharge S-1, briefly addressed about the 5 Poshan Sutras – First golden 1000 days, Paustik Aahar, Diarrhoea prevention, Anemia, Hygiene and sanitation along with role of balanced diet and appreciated the students for their participation. Poshan Aahar (fruits) was also distributed to all the participants.
Clinical Research Unit- Homoeopathy, Port Blair is conducting series of outreach awareness activities for creating awareness among the general population through its Unit. Awareness sessions were being conducted in the local Anganwadi Centres targeting the children under 5 years of age, pregnant & lactating mothers. Nutritional health lectures were also conducted in the GSS, Junglighat school for the adolescent boys & girls. Regular interactive sessions and health check-ups for people attending the General OPD were being done and they were screened for nutritional deficiencies, if any.
