Port Blair, Sept 04: A grand Jal Shakti Abhiyan was organized at Community Hall Ograbraj by CIARI-KVK in collaboration with Gram Panchayat Mithakhari. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament, A & N Islands was the Chief Guest of the event alongwith Mr. Sanjib Kr. Mandal, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad South Andaman and Mr. Krishna Kumar, IAS CEO, Zilla Parishad as Guest of Honours.
Dr. B. Gangaiah Director ICAR-CIARI, Mr. Calayrible Joint Director Agriculture, Mr. V. Mashar GM Nabard, Mr. L.B. Singh Sr. Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Dr. Jai Sunder, Head I/c Animal Science Division CIARI, Mr. Rajender Pal BDO CD Block Ferrargunj and Mr. Shibu George Programme Executive, All India Radio were also present on the event and spokes about the measures to be taken for the conservation water in the Islands.
In this different schools were participated where Speech competition, open house drawing competition and exhibition competition were organized. Stalls were represented by Self Help Groups. Officers from line departments from Agriculture, AH & VS, Panchayat, KVK, CD Block Ferrargunj were also participated. The Chief Guest spoke on various measures to be taken for conservation of water in the Islands.
He also give emphasis on conservation of water to various new sources available at Mithakhari, Collinpur and Tushnabad and requested line depts. like APWD and Agriculture to take steps forward in development of the sources with the collaboration of Gram Panchayats under South Andaman District.
He also said that if preventive measures are taken then there would be never any scarcity of water in the Islands. Dr. B. Gangaiah Director ICAR-CIARI gave details of measures to be taken by general public in daily routine for prevention of scarcity of water in future. Pradhan Mr. Mohd. Safiq gave details on various sources available at Gram Panchayat Mithakhari and also requested general public to participate in this movement.
He requested Agriculture dept. to planting fruit trees at the field of needy farmers by converging MGNREGA scheme for water conservation. He then thanked all the dignities present for organizing this event in Gram Panchayat Mithakhari for the welfare of farmers/villagers. Mr. L.B. Singh, Sr. Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK thanked Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament for sparing his valuable time for the event and thanked all the dignities for attending the programme. He also thanked Mr. Mohd. Safiq Pradhan Gram Panchayat Mithakhari for his cooperation towards organizing such grand event.
