Port Blair, Aug 23: In a shocking revelation, the Member of Parliament of A & N Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today said that he was offered a bribe of Rs. 4 crore rupees to drop the Viper Issue. However, even after repeated questions from scribes the MP did not reveal the name of the person who had offered him Rs. 4 crore as bribe.
“If they could offer me Rs. 4 crore then how much they might have offered those people,” said the MP while addressing a Press Conference at MP Bhawan today.
Addressing a press conference at the MP office today evening Mr Ray raised the issue of Viper Island and said that when the Navy, was having security problems while approving bridge construction from Chatham to Bambooflat and Andaman Marina, then why they don’t have any problem with the construction of Yacht Marina in Viper Island which is very close to Floating Dock, Junglighat Jetty, Chatham Jetty, Naval Base etc.
Mr Ray also pointed out that the family members and decedents of freedom fighters have written letters to the President of India to save Viper Island and to protect history of freedom struggle. The MP added that he will visit Viper Island tomorrow at 2:15 pm with senior BJP leader and former President of BJP, Mr. Rajnath Singh.
Later, Mr. Ray blamed the Transport Department for giving order of 69 small and modern busses and said the Transport Department has no modern workshop, machines and regular staffs to repair and service those new busses as these busses will be based on modern technologies.
Targeting the Transport Department MP said that when the population is increasing in these Islands then why the Department has ordered for small small 32 seater busses.
Therefore the MP demanded the Department to bring 52 seater new busses and also to regularise the 250 staffs who are working in the department from last 6 to 7 years as driver, mechanic, conductor etc, whom he met today when he visited the transport department.
Further Mr Ray raised the issue of Chatham power house where he visited and said that water leakages are everywhere, and rain water falls in wires etc, which is very dangerous for the workers.
