Port Blair, Aug 09: Mr. Sanjay Meshak, a social worker of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has written a letter to the Lt. Governor of this UT and demanded fixing of One Year Tenure for Government servants in Nicobar District.
In his letter Mr. Sanjay Meshak pointed out that transfer of Government Servants to Nicobar District has always been the most complex issue of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As due to uncertain tenure, remoteness, poor connectivity and lack of basic infrastructure Government Servants hesitate to serve in Nicobar District the public of Nicobar District suffer heavily.
Mr. Meshak proposed to fix tenure of all Government servants for Nicobar District to only one year, as it was done soon after Tsunami to get best output for Government staffs and better results for people of Nicobar District.
“In departments where staffs are less this arrangement can be made rotation wise and hence for a particular Government Servant next tenure in Nicobar District will come after only 8-10 years, which will be acceptable,” he said.
He also pointed out that there are several benefits of one year tenure such as:
ZERO HESITATION: When a employee will know that he has to serve in Nicobar District for only one year, he/she will not try to put any efforts to stop and delay the transfer as he will be knowing serving in Nicobar for one year will give him relief for one year will give him relief for coming 10to 20 years.
After Tsunami when tenure of all Government Servant was fixed to one year almost every Government Servants went to Nicobar District and worked whole heartedly. If this arrangement was possible post tsunami, why it can’t be made possible now?
BETTER OUTPUT: In case tenure is fixed to one year and it is made mandatory for all employees to stay in the station for certain number of days then the output will automatically improve.
NO TRANSPORTATION COST: In case of one year Transfer the Administration may not pay the Transportation allowance to employees as the transfer will be for very short duration. However, those who will choose to stay in Nicobar District for more than one year may be given Transportation allowance.
