Port Blair, August 8: In order to preserve the pristine and serenity of these Islands and to declare Port Blair a Plastic Free city, the Port Blair Municipal Council has been issuing Public Notice, time to time in the local dailies, cautioning shopkeepers and other for not using or promoting plastic carry bags, spun /non – woven bags.
The Revenue Section of PBMC has carried out drives against traders/shopkeeper/ vendors in various market areas and an approximate of 117 kgs of Plastic carry bags were confiscated. The PBMC again appeal to all shop keepers/vendors/ firms/ stakeholders to refrain from promoting or using plastic bags and if found defaulter, action as deemed fit will be initiated in terms of PBMC – Solid Waste (Handling & Management ) Bye-Laws apart from its seizure and sealing premises.
The PBMC will carry out such drives at Shops /firms/ agencies to arrest the illegal use of Plastic, Spun/ non – woven bags till PBMC ensures complete ban on its sale or use.
