Campbell Bay, Aug 07: M.V. Nicobar which sailed from Port Blair on 06.08.2019 to Nancowry and Campbell Bay reached Campbell Bay this morning at 0615 hrs after which a Pinhole was reported in the ship by the crew members.
Before reaching Campbell Bay the ship took passengers from Nancowry Island on 6th August night.
In the afternoon today announcements were made in the ship asking the passengers to disembark the ship for safety reasons.
Sources said that the ship crew repaired the ship within two hours but for safety concern passengers were asked to leave the ship but many passengers refused to leave the ship.
At around 1.00 PM the Assistant Commissioner of Great Nicobar, Dr. Mukesh Kumar met the master of the ship. The master told AC that he is planning to take the ship to Port Blair directly and all the passengers who boarded from Nancowry for Port Blair have been asked to disembark.
Meanwhile some passengers from Nancowry refused to leave the ship and demanded to take them back to Nancowry. Further, they raised questions that why they were allowed to board the ship at Nancowry when there was a problem in the ship.
The Assistant Commissioner of Great Nicobar however handled the situation very professionally and at last all passengers disembarked from the ship and the ship sailed for Port Blair at 7.30 PM. He assured the passengers that another ship is sailing from Port Blair tomorrow which will take all passengers to Port Blair.
At Campbell Bay all the Gents passengers were given shelter at Community Hall of Campbell Bay and all lady passengers were given shelter at Sainik Saray. The Assistant Commissioner himself interacted with passengers to make sure that the passengers do not feel any inconvenience.
