Port Blair, Aug 17: The South Andaman District of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which was reeling under severe power crisis, finally breathed a sigh of relief as since last 48 hours there was no power cut in the Island.
“I am happy to say that since last 40-41 hours there was no load shedding in South Andaman region. In case peak demand remains steady there is no need to curtail load,” the Commissioner-Cum-Secretary (Power), Mr. Jalaj Srivastava said today while addressing a press conference at the Conference room of A & N Administration’s Secretariat.
He urged general public to use power judiciously and responsibly to avoid shortage of Power during Peak Times.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, added that at present the demand and supply of power is neck and neck.
“At present total loading capacity available with the Administration is 31.60 MW and Peak Load is 31.60, which is neck and neck,” Mr. Srivastava told reporters.
He said that Peak demand of South Andaman region is maximum during summer days, which goes upto 33.00 MW.
He told media that South Andaman region suffered heavy power cut because two of the 5 MW Diesel Generator sets of an Independent Power Producer, went out of order in March 2012.
He said that though one of the damaged Power DG sets was re-commissioned after repair on 14th August 2012, for the other DG set, procurement of spares for Major Overhauling is under process.
He said that the damaged DG set of the Independent Power Producer, is expected to be re-commissioned by end of September 2012.
The power secretary assured media that by October 2012, Administration will be having reserve capacity of about 15 MW power to ensure that these Islands do not suffer another power crisis.

The above two statement means after September we will have 20MW surplus! Should we rejoice on the surplus or repent on wasteful stocking, I am perplexed!!!
Same person had promised that 15-20 MW equivalent to 20 MW private power plant would be available by July 2012 end, what abt that?
