Port Blair, Aug 15: Three days training programme was organized by KVK Nicobar district in collaboration with Deptt. of Agriculture and Industries Deptt., Nicobar on “Operation and maintenance of improve machinery for plantation crops” from 7th to 9th August, 2012 at Car Nicobar.
The training was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sri Kindness Israel, 1st Headman, Kinmai village and Sri Aubrey James, 5th Headman, Kinmai village, Car Nicobar was the Guest of Honour. Er Chandrika Ram, SMS (Agri. Engg.), KVK, Nicobar gave a brief about the training programme. A total of 30 practicing farmers (18 Nicobarese men and 12 women) have been benefitted from the training. During the training, different aspect like significance of farm mechanization in agriculture, utility of diesel pump set, coconut climber – a tool for climbing on coconut tree, scope and opportunity in coir processing at Nicobar Islands and practical demonstrations on operation & maintenance of coconut dryer, coconut de-husker, coconut climber, diesel pump set, power tiller, coir making machine were described to the trainees. The trainees were involved in practical demonstration on coir & rope making process.
The officials of Industries Department have elaborated schemes available with the Industries Department for employment generation to tribal community. The training was conducted by Er. Chandrika Ram successfully and concluded under the guidance of Dr Nagesh Ram, Programme Coordinator I/c, KVK-Nicobar on 9th August, 2012.
