Port Blair, May 16: Finally, much needed cleanliness drive was organized at Billyground Bazaar, which till yesterday used to look like a massive garbage dumping area due to indiscriminate garbage dumping and lack of cleanliness.
Earlier, when Andaman Sheekha had questioned the Pradhan of the area that why garbage dumped all over Billyground Bazaar was not shifted to any dumping area, the Pradhan replied that due to a complaint lodged by an NGO, dumping of Garbage from Billyground area to nearby Nallah was prohibited.
He said that recently the DC of North and Middle Andaman personally visited the site and had given permission to the Panchayat to dump garbage in old dumping area till newly allotted dumping site is made fully ready.
He said that today, following the new orders, PRI Members, staffs of PS Billyground, Staff of Fire Services came together and organized a massive cleanliness drive in Billygound Bazaar with an aim to clean the area before arrival of monsoon. General public who have now breathed a sigh of relief, have lauded the efforts of PRIs, Police and Fire Service Jawans.
