Baratang, Feb 25: The Baratang Island has become a major transit point for all ATR passengers and also a hotspot for all visiting tourists but pathetic 2G network is leaving people upset at Baratang. While many other prominent Islands and tourist spots have already got 3G connectivity, the Baratang Islands is yet to get the service.
The Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang Islands, Mr Alagar Swami has been demanding for 3G service for Baratang Island since a long time and recently he was told by a senior officer of BSNL that Baratang Island will get 3G only after Kamorta, Katchal and Nicobar Islands.
“This is injustice, Baratang is very close to South Andaman and considering flow of people through Baratang Island everyday and number of tourists visiting the Island, the Baratang Island must be given top priority for 3G services,” said Mr. Alagar Swami.
He told Andaman Sheekha that he has once again taken up the matter with the CGM and he is hopeful that all five towers of Baratang will soon be equipped with 3G instruments and the Island will be blessed with 3G service.
