Baratang/Mayabunder, Feb 25: A group of villagers of Baratang Islands, who are facing eviction from the Middle Strait Bridge Construction work, today met the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman at Mayabunder.
According to the villagers the meeting was successful and the Deputy Commissioner very patiently heard their problems. The DC reportedly assured them all possible help and said that if they have allotted land then they deserve compensation and he will do whatever possible.
The DC also reportedly issued directions to the Assistant Commissioners to file a report in this regard.
Meanwhile it is learnt that the NHIDCL is also not at fault because somehow they have been informed that entire bridge alignment is from forest land.
“As per record, the bridge should pass through the land bearing survey number 33, which is forest land, but our house built over Survey number 32, revenue land, is actually coming on the way. We believe someone has sent a wrong report to the Ministry,” alleged a villager of Baratang.
The villagers of Baratang, who have been asked to vacate land, are also not against the Middle Strait Bridge and they are ready to cooperate but they demand suitable compensation as they are about to lose everything they have.
Meanwhile the NHIDCL is going ahead with the task, which was given to them and they have all required permission. The NHIDCL is already behind the schedule because of all clearances, which are required for this herculean task.
The Middle Strait bridge is a dream project for each and every Islander and hope the Administration will act fast in this case and give proper compensation to the affected families, so that they crucial project completes in time.
