Port Blair, August 01: The Directorate of Disaster Management is planning to issue alerts on disasters from State Control Room (SCR) through BSNL SMS Servers in case of Earthquakes; Tsunami Alerts; High Wind Wave Alerts; Heavy Rain Fall Alerts and Advisories.
The main purpose of disseminating the alerts through SMS is to mitigate the effects of the hazards/disasters. These messages will be sent from the State Control Room in Bulk SMS for disaster alerts to Emergency Support Functionaries (ESFs); Bulk SMS alerts on disasters to the general public and Cell Broadcast Service SMS alerts on disaster to the public under specific tower/specific location that may be affected by incidents
“The general public is advised to take decisions accordingly for their safety. For any queries they may contact the State Control Room (SCR) or any of the 06 Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs) (Pertaining to their areas) situated at District Office of South Andaman, Mayabunder, Hut Bay, Car Nicobar, Kamorta or Campbell Bay Message will not be delivered to the customers who have registered for “Do Not Disturb” (DND)
