Port Blair, Dec 26: Mr. Vinod the president of AATO has lauded the initiatives of the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration in bringing in Heritage Tourism in these Islands. He has also appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Art and Culture for taking up restoration of three Japanese WW-II bunkers, with support from INTACH.
Appreciating the new initiative Mr. M Vinod, the President of Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) said “This is a great idea to restore old and dilapidated Japanese Bunker to its full glory and opening these Bunkers for Tourists, so that they can actually feel how things were during Japanese regime in Andaman. Why only three bunkers? All the other bunkers dotting the coastline from Dignabad to Corbyn’s Cove should also be restored and opened up. It will be a wonderful initiative to show tourists our past.”
In past there were lots of media reports and public representations urging preservation and repair of these Japanese Bunkers, which are a part of Andaman’s rich history but this is the first time when the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has taken proactive step and restored two Japanese Bunkers near Aberdeen Water Sports Complex.
