Port Blair, Apr 20: Port Blair has been hub for Coast Guard ships and air units alongwith support units. Majority of CG fleet comprises of small surface platforms having limited space. Therefore, physical activities and sports are not feasible onboard these platforms. Considering same, initiatives were taken to develop sports infrastructure for CG Officers and Men to have healthy life, thus healthy mind.
On 20 Apr 18, Inspector General K R Suresh, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region(A&N) inaugurated the new basket ball & volley ball court alongwith open gym for Coast Guard personals living onboard ships. The Flag officer also inaugurated an external gymnasium for Coast Guard families at CG Residential area with an aim to enhance personal health for everyone.
Flag officer while addressing the CG fraternity, emphasized the importance of personal health and advised to inculcate sports and games activities in every ones daily life. The Coast Guard Commander further asked everyone to use these facilities to achieve healthy body and mind.
