Port Blair, April 20: After the successful declaration of Calicut as the first child friendly village in December, the UTCPCR in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (South Andaman) officially launched the work for making the Mithakhari Gram Panchayat into a child friendly village at the Ograbranj Community Hall on 19th of April, 2018, in the presence of Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, Chairperson DCPU (SA), Deputy Commissioner (SA) as the chief guest of the function while Mrs. Rubina Siddiqui, Member UTCPCR was the guest of honour.
Mr. Mohd Saffique Pradhan DCPU (SA) team, PRI Members, Mithakhari Gram Panchayat Child Protection Committee Members and other key stake holders were also present on the occasion.
Mrs. Suparna Biswas, Legal Officer (DCPU) spoke about the indicators of Child Friendly Village Mrs. Rubina Siddiqui, Member UTCPCR explained the gathering about the ‘Concept and Need of Child Friendly Village’ and chief guest of the programme Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, Deputy Commissioner (SA) spoke about the importance of Child Friendly Environment for the overall development of every child of these Islands.
The Child Friendly Village which is a concept of NCPCR, for which the A&N UTCPCR is the monitoring authority whereas DCPU is the implementing agency which works under the guidance of UT Commission, for implementation of this concept. Initially three villages were selected for the phase one of implementation and now in phase two 8 villages have been selected throughout the A & N Islands.
