Port Blair, Feb 23: JNRM organized its Golden Jubilee Annual Sports from 17th February 2018 starting with Cross Country events. Competitions for 26 athletic events were conducted on 22nd and 23rd February 2018 in the college ground. The Chief Guest for the function Mr. Shubankar Ghosh, Director Sports and Director Education inaugurated the Annual Athletic Meet on 23rd February and took salute from an attractive and colorful march past. In his speech he appreciated the excellent sports facilities in JNRM and the well-maintained football stadium. He called upon the students to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and excel in sports at local as well as national level. Earlier, welcoming the Chief Guest Dr. Francis Xavier, Principal JNRM described how the students of JNRM, especially from the Physical Education Department are bringing laurels to the Islands at the State and National Level. At the conclusion of the games Mr. Ankit Chakraborty of BPES 1st year and Miss. Reena Kumari of BPES 1st year won the individual championship for boys and girls respectively. Department of Physical Education lifted the overall championship and Arts department won the runners-up trophy. Students who won medals in National Championships in different games and sports were also given mementos during the ceremony. Dr Mrs Laly Joseph, Associate Professor, Department of Physical Education who will be retiring this year was presented with a memento for her meritorious service to the College and sports in the islands. Mr. Saji Joseph, HoD Physical Education coordinated the entire programme.
