
Port Balir, Dec 22: On 22 Dec 17 early in the morning, Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajshree evacuated a 27 years old Philipino crew namely Mr. Sasota Irish D. John from Majuro Flag gas tanker ‘Al Dafna’ on passage to South Korea . The crew was reported to be suffering from high fever and vomiting (suspected malaria).
Captain of the merchant vessel “Al Dafna” destined for South Korea requested Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Center Port Blair for urgent medical evacuation of the medically ill crew. Evaluating the criticality of the situation, Coast Guard medical officer provided tele-medical advice to the crew. Simultaneously, Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajshree was sailed for urgent medical evacuation.
At the time of emergency reporting, the vessel was 35 NM south-west of Indira Point, near Campbell Bay enroute from qatar to South Korea. LPG carrying merchant vessel had long passage time to next port of call South Korea, therefore it was decided to evacuate crew amid sea as soon as possible. Indian Coast Guard ship Rajshree successfully evacuated the crew and headed towards Campbell Bay with maximum speed. On completion of handing/taking over formalities, MT “Al Dafna” was directed to resume her passage to next port of call Incheon, South Korea. The medical team onboard administered the patient with basic first aid and stabilized the crew enroute prior entering campbell bay in early morning hours. On arrival at Campbell Bay, the patient was immediately shifted to primary health centre for immediate medical attention. Later, the patient was transferred to Port Blair via Coast Guard Dornier for further medical treatment at Port Blair on the same day on 22 Dec 17.
