
Port Blair, Dec 22: On 21.12.2017 Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament met with Mr. R.K.Singh, Minister of Power and presented a letter highlighting various shortfalls in generation and distribution of power to South Andaman District, N & M Andaman District and other far flung areas including Southern Group of Islands.
Besides submission of letter, Mr. Ray had a discussion on the various issues like; Since 2014 the Islanders are facing with frequent load shedding.
He pointed out that many D.G.Sets are being used beyond specific life span. No future plan has been laid down by the Administration for replacement with new D.G.Sets. Power House building at Chatham which provides maximum portion power supply to the South Andaman District is in a dilapidated condition.
Immediate action is required to renovate the building to protect the life of workers and off course machineries. Similar conditions in out station. No concrete plan so far has been brought out for replacement of “over head electric lines” of 1980 in to “underground cable lines”.
As far as setting up of LNG base power plant is concerned, the Administration is not serious, the MP added.
After detailed discussion, Minister of Power has assured to M.P for resolving the entire shortfalls at the earliest as possible. Minister has further informed the M.P that a High Level Meeting will be convened in the Ministry in which the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands and other Senior Officers of the Administration will be also attend to sort out these issues.
